Chesed Committee

Charity and Social Concern: In accordance with our deep belief in the philosophy of “Tikkun Olam” (repairing the world), KSYM has invested significant time and resources in charitable causes.

One special project undertaken by our community is support for the war-torn residents of Sderot, a city that has been frequently hit by missiles and rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists. In January of 2008, BKA was proud to host many residents of Sderot for Shabbat. The communal meals and prayers forged a bond between our respective communities and provided a respite from the bomb shelters and warnings for the residents of Sderot.

After this emotional Shabbat, Rabbi Sobol said, “The families from Sderot were very touched by the welcome they received from our community. Since the end of Shabbat, I continue to hear from the families about how much they enjoyed spending Shabbat with us and all of the warmth and love that they received from our community. They were especially moved to find special families in our community that made Aliyah due to their Zionistic ideals and beliefs.”

KSYM has contributed financially to Sderot, including mass purchases of challot and other baked goods for Shabbat from bakeries in Sderot. We are also involved in charitable projects in Modi’in, including providing financial assistance to an organization that helps feed the needy.
