About BKA/ אודותינו

“May You shine a new light on Zion, and may we all speedily merit its light.” – From the Sabbath morning prayers.

Buchman, Modi’in - Modi'in is the historical name of the stronghold of the Maccabees, whose victory over the vastly superior forces of Greek aggressors is commemorated on Hanukah.  Much like our heroic ancestors, the Beit Knesset Ashkenaz (BKA) community is comprised of young and idealistic members who seek to spread the light of our Torah and love of Eretz Yisrael far and wide.

The idealism of our members is demonstrated by the fact that a significant percentage of BKA congregants are immigrants who left comfortable lives overseas to fulfill the dream of living in Israel. Our young shul, which was established in 2004, has already attracted over 135 families as members.

We are led by Rabbi Shlomo Sobol. Rav Sobol studied at the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem. In addition, he spent four years as the Rosh Kollel of the Torah MiTzion Kollel in Detroit, Michigan and together with his wfie Tali made a tremendouns impact on many members of that community. His Torah insights and love of Eretz Yisrael are combined with an easy-going and approachable manner.
